i long to hear your barking
the way you enthusiastically greet me
i long to see you jump
all your furry small body against the play pen
hoping to get a pat on the head
every time i pick up your bowl
i long to see your eyes light up
for the greediness of your tiny tummy
i long to sit down by your side
telling you what a good girl you are
while you sneak to steal some kibbles
every time i free you
i long to feel the bump in my legs
of you running across the room into the porch
i long to see your excitement
when you feel the breeze in your face
making me dizzy playing with your sisters
every time i pick you up
i long to feel you wiggle in my arms
to land a wet tongue on my face
i long to see your contentment
looking so peaceful in my arms
enjoying the belly rub you love so much
every time i sat down on the couch
i long for the feeling of cold wet feet
of you giving me a good leg spa
i long for a warm fur ball
with your favourite toy in your clinch
sneaking up to curl next to me
though i remind myself that you are long gone
leaving behind only memories
taking a piece of me with you
all i long for is to hold you in my arms again
to see you smiling eagerly at me again
to show you that you’re an important part of my life
just know that i think of you all the time
and you will always be in my heart
