like i said, that was a notion that built around my fragile, innocent mind back then... okok, perhaps just my plain stupidity... as i progress into late primary, there was one classmate who shared with us otherwise... it was hard to swallow then, i mean a single different thought to the whole world telling you otherwise...
but that did the trick... she planted a seed for me to look at the cash swindling marketing campaign differently... if valentine's day is all about love... why does it have to stop only for a specific one individual that you so happen to date??? one's heart doesnt simply just love ONE single person... what about your parents, children, siblings, family members, friends, idols??? and for people like me, what about your pets??? for me, minus the children and siblings, these are all very important people... they are the love of my life... so where should they stand???
as age caught up with me... preferably, wisdom acquired over time... anyway, as time ticks by, i started asking myself again... why is everyone declaring their love only on valentine's day??? does that mean, every other ordinary days dont count??? is it that it'd only show how appreciative you are towards your loved one if you celebrate with him or her only on feb 14th???
then you'll come to notice that outrageous valentine's day promotions pops up in every possible line of business you can think of... it started of affordable promotions that were worth paying for... subsequently, the prices shot up crazy!!! to a point that i put a stop in this madness from my life...
the partner i used to date stressed a huge importance to celebrate valentine's day in our relationship... and it must be on that specific day too... i went on with it... until one of those years when it was decided that victoria station would be a good place to do it... the waiting time was crazy... customers are ONLY ALLOWED to order their exorbitantly priced valentine's day dinner set... food sucks big time... worst part was, you were seated so close to the next table, you can just reach out to eat from their plates... there was totally no privacy... the experience was my last straw at this...
fast forward to now... i've ditched any attempt to even eat out at restaurants, especially western cuisines, on valentine's day... settling for a normal meal with my hubby is more than enough for me... i'd rather have being loved and appreciated every day than a only a day in my annual 365.25 days... and this year onwards, i've a woof-ie party to organize for my babes...
*starbucks is celebrating her first birthday next week... and she told her daddy that she wants to throw a big party like noodles... boiled chicken and wet canned food, with raw chicken bones as appetizers and yogurt as desserts*
p/s - though, i wouldnt mind using the oh-so popular day to splurge on exquisite meals... the trick is, we now do it the day after all the craziness... it still means something for us... it is afterall his birthday... =)
